Our 5″ Quarter Sawn and Rift Red Oak flooring is fit for the most scrutinizing shopper. This 5″ wide solid red oak hardwood is made using the finest quarter-sawn lumber in the industry, and in this Select grade, uniformity is ensured.
Quarter Sawn lumber creates a more stable flooring product than plain-sawn lumber. This is because of its unique properties, and the angle at which the saw blade cuts across the growth rings of the oak.
When oak is quarter sawn, a great deal of it becomes Rift oak, meaning the saw blade cut between a 30 to 60-degree angle across the growth rings. This rift lumber is what becomes the straight, clear planks in your hardwood floor.
When a hardwood floor is properly described as Quarter Sawn & Rift, or perhaps Rift & Quartered, this means that the Rift material (defined in the previous paragraph) is included in the end product. This is the most popular selection of quarter-sawn oak flooring, however, we do offer a product that is exclusively Quarter Sawn Red Oak, as well as a product that is exclusively Rift Red Oak.
