The Basics of Brazilian Walnut Flooring
Brazilian Walnut is an exotic wood floor that is imported from Brazil and other neighboring countries in South America. It is a rain forest wood and is world-renowned for it’s incredible hardness and durability.
It is for that hardness that many families choose Ipe when shopping for new floors because it can hold up to household activities better than nearly any other kind of wood floors. As already mentioned, Brazilian Walnut achieved a 3680 on the Janka Hardness chart, making it nearly 3x harder than Northern Red Oak.
What do Brazilian Walnut Floors Look Like?
Well that’s a good question! Ipe is unlike nearly any other species of hardwood when it comes to colors. This wood has been said to contain planks from dark chocolate brown (almost black) to red, green, purple and even yellow and of course many shades of brown. That is not to say that all Brazilian Walnut floors are like that, since like all types of wood flooring, the color is very much dictated by the region in which it was grown and other factors that contribute to the woods actual color after sawing and drying the lumber.
