Brazilian Walnut / Ipe Flooring

Brazilian Walnut / Ipe Flooring

Brazilian Walnut (also known as Ipe) Flooring is incredibly popular and this can probably be credited equally for it’s beauty and incredible density. Ipe comes in on the Janka Hardness chart at a staggering 3680, making it one of the hardest woods in the world.

We’re proud to offer a variety of Brazilian Walnut flooring products here at flooring.org and we encourage you to begin shopping our selections now.

The Basics of Brazilian Walnut Flooring

Brazilian Walnut is an exotic wood floor that is imported from Brazil and other neighboring countries in South America. It is a rain forest wood and is world-renowned for it’s incredible hardness and durability.

It is for that hardness that many families choose Ipe when shopping for new floors because it can hold up to household activities better than nearly any other kind of wood floors. As already mentioned, Brazilian Walnut achieved a 3680 on the Janka Hardness chart, making it nearly 3x harder than Northern Red Oak.

What do Brazilian Walnut Floors Look Like?

Well that’s a good question! Ipe is unlike nearly any other species of hardwood when it comes to colors. This wood has been said to contain planks from dark chocolate brown (almost black) to red, green, purple and even yellow and of course many shades of brown. That is not to say that all Brazilian Walnut floors are like that, since like all types of wood flooring, the color is very much dictated by the region in which it was grown and other factors that contribute to the woods actual color after sawing and drying the lumber.

HARDWOOD FLOORING

Hardwood flooring is considered by many to be the most desirable type of floor to be had. Because wood flooring is a natural, organic product, literally there are no two boards alike. Every single plank of a wood floor is unique, never repeating a grain, and every piece varies in color, however slightly, from the next. Because of its natural organic properties, wood is the perfect canvas upon which to create a totally unique flooring product. Whether the wood is stained (nearly any color imaginable can be achieved with wood stains and aniline dyes) or textures the wood using methods like hand scraping, distressing or wire brushing, the designs that can be achieved with hardwood floors are virtually limitless.
