What is Caribbean Heart Pine?
Caribbean Heart Pine is harder than most other pine species that are used for flooring. It is a 1280 on the Janka Hardness chart, making it almost identical in hardness to Red Oak! Because of it’s hardness and it’s beauty it is perhaps the best choice among all of types of pine floors that are available. Caribbean Heart pine is a deep red and brown wood with lighter sapwood. This wood will patina with time, darkening into a deeper, richer reddish brown tone, becoming more beautiful with time.
What is the difference between Premium Grade and Character Grade Caribbean Heart Pine?
There are two main differences between the Premium Grade and Character Grade in this product. The first is in regards to knots in the wood; Premium Grade will have little or no knots, while the Character Grade will have plenty of knots varying in size. The second difference is in color; Premium Grade will be predominately heartwood with very little of the blonde sapwood, while the Character Grade will have more sapwood, making this grade more varied in contrasting colors.
