3 1/4″ Rift & Quarter Sawn Select & Better White Oak Flooring

Rift & Quarter Sawn White Oak flooring is one of the most dimensionally stable wood flooring materials you can possibly purchase.

Because of the angle at which the lumber is sawn (against the growth rings, with the blade angled toward the core of each log) Rift and Quartered flooring will expand and contract significantly less than flooring that is just plain sawn. Also, because the growth rings are more vertical, as opposed to horizontal, the boards will expand more vertically, making any expansion or contraction almost completely unnoticeable.

The visual differences between plain sawn white oak and Rift & Quartersawn white oak are very noticeable. While the colors are pretty much the same, the grain pattern is very different. The quarter sawn planks will show the growth rings prominently, created almost iridescent markings called medulary rays, also known as the ribbon and fleck pattern. The Rift planks are similar, which is why the Rift & Quartered planks blend together so well, however the Rift boards simply display a tight, straight grain pattern with the “ribbon and fleck” pattern.

This is unfinished white oak flooring, so it will need to be sanded and finished after it has been installed.

This Rift & Quarter Sawn White Oak flooring is 3/4″ thick, 3 1/4″ wide and comes in traditional random lengths from 1 to 7 feet long.
